Northwest Dance Project offers exceptional year-round programming for youth. Dancers will experience the joy of dance taught by Portland's finest teachers. Our YOUTH DANCE CLASSES and DANCE CAMPS are specially geared for dancers 4 to 18 years old.

Our philosophy focuses on technique, movement skills, strengthening and conditioning, versatility, and creativity to support a balanced dance training education. Our programs provide a comprehensive approach to training that takes into consideration each individual dancer's
needs and progression. We love creative expression, imagination, engagement, and offer in-depth instruction in a supportive and encouraging environment.

All YOUTH DANCE CLASSES and DANCE CAMPS are only available on multi-week, cost-saving sessions. Registration is required.

We hold three sessions per school year - Fall | Winter | Spring. During the summer months, we offer multiple intensives, camps and workshops for dancers to learn, explore and create.

YOUTH PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM - For dancers between 9 to 18

  • Students enrolled in our professional program will be required to complete all Ballet and Contemporary dance technique classes offered in their level and will experience comprehensive training that provides in-depth study of the techniques that support a professional dance career.
  • Full program tuition is significantly reduced from individual class costs to enrich, and complete a full and balanced dance education.
  • Students will be featured in our annual Spring Artist Showcase at Lincoln Performance Hall - June 14 / 2015.

Students should expect to complete a minimim of a year's study in each level (age appropriate) before moving up to the next level. Placement and advancement is at the discretion of the teacher. Great consideration is taken in the class placement process. Students move through our curriculum according to ability, development and age.

CLASS INFO

BALLET
Our ballet dance classes provide a strong foundation in ballet fundamentals and basic ballet technique. Placement, balance, posture, coordination, musicality and alignment are clearly explained and emphasized. These classes offer a comprehensive barre and continue into a focused and structured center exercises. Our curriculum program provides advanced and commited students with a full and comprehensive ballet education.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT
This class offers young dancers the opportunity to gain an understanding of how their bodies move and how to communicate through dance. Through improvisation and structured choreographic activities, these dancers in the making will create a series of creative movement studies to share.

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ
These upbeat and energetic dance classes develop a strong technical foundation focusing on lowering the dancer's center of gravity and syncopating movement with a blend of Latin, modern, ballet and jazz. This focused and active class helps dancers connect to feeling movement from the inside out.

HIP HOP
Our hip hop dance classes introduce the street dance styles from the Bronx and beyond. Fresh, funky and soulful expression of movement that is constantly evolving. A great and fun way to bust some moves.
