NORTHWEST DANCE PROJECT } Outreach

Northwest Dance Project is committed to taking dance beyond the traditional studio and theater environments. In addition to creating new dance works and the next generation of dance artists, The Northwest Dance Project engages in innovative community outreach initiatives, and offers a variety of classes, workshops, informational opportunities and intimate performance experiences.

Dance Moves Community Outreach Program

The Northwest Dance Project's community outreach program, Dance Moves, partners with local community organizations serving disadvantaged, challenged, and at-risk youth to bring our dedicated and energetic dancers and staff to youth service settings to perform, demonstrate, engage and teach movement skills and creative exploration.

Our Dance Moves staff consists of leading artists, teachers and mentors who have years of professional dance experience as well as lengthy histories coaching and guiding young people. Our Dance Moves' dancers have been selected for their ability to positively interact with, mentor and teach others. These peer-to-peer experiences are valuable tools in helping to build confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem, as well as creating new dance artists, enthusiasts and participants.

Dance Moves outreach program sessions take place at facilities such as hospitals, shelters, schools and youth service centers. Our Dance Moves program is interactive, peer-to-peer based and uniquely tailored to each session site for maximum benefit to those served. Launched during the Northwest Dance Project's 2007 season, Dance Moves is proud to have served the following organizations:

Master Classes / Workshops / Lecture Demonstrations

It is our mission to showcase dance for everyone. Northwest Dance Project is delighted to put our talents on display in schools, universities, and other educational institutions, sharing our passion for dance. Northwest Dance Project offers an array of master classes, creative workshops and informative lecture demonstrations that can be developed and tailored to meet the needs of any group, community or educational organization. The Northwest Dance Project's focused programs expose the art of dance while offering opportunities to watch and meet the artists as well as providing participants with exercise, self-discipline and a healthy outlet for personal expression.

Corporate / Private Performance

Are you hosting a corporate event or celebrating a special occasion for which dance would be the ideal compliment? Northwest Dance Project will put its creative energies at your disposal with dynamic, festive shows specifically designed to meet your needs. A perfect blend of emotion, creativity and athleticism will make your event an unforgettable experience!

Dancers and Dance Makers Talk

If dance is your passion and/or career path, our Northwest Dance Project dancers, choreographers and directors are available to meet with you and your organization to provide insight on the realities and rewards of the professional dance world. These structured yet relaxed interactive sessions are designed to give the aspiring dancer a glimpse into the complex world of professional-level dance and provide valuable insight into the demands, expectations, realities and rewards of a career in dance. Our Artistic Director, Sarah Slipper, has over 20 years experience in dance as a principal dancer, ballet mistress, master teacher, choreographer, and artistic director. Her wealth of knowledge and experience to share will be complimented by perspectives from our additional artistic staff and, perhaps most importantly, our professional dancers themselves.

Talks are tailored to suit your programming needs.

Behind the Scenes

Have you ever wanted to experience what takes place long before the curtain goes up? Ever wondered about the creative studio process that goes unseen by most? Northwest Dance Project offers its supporters the chance to experience a studio rehearsal with one of our guest artists, followed by a meet-and-greet reception with our artists and dancers. Our special Behind the Scenes events have been extremely popular and a highlight of the Northwest Dance Project's annual activities.
